This chapter describes the steps to follow if you encounter a problem while using the A la Carte Menu and Security System.
When you encounter a problem, always check these basic items first:
1. Make sure you are authorized to the commands, programs, and files in library ALC.
2. Make sure you are authorized to the menu you are trying to access.
If the basic items check out, check your low level messages by following these steps:
1. Enter the following command at any command
line to display your job log:
DSPJOBLOG
2. From the Job Log display, press F10 to display low-level messages.
3. Press F5 to refresh the display.
4. If necessary, press F18 to display the end of the job log.
5. When you have located the messages relating to the problem at hand, print the information by pressing the PRINT key.
6. If you cannot determine the nature of the problem from the job log, or if you cannot correct the problem, proceed to the next section.
The following is a list of common problems that can occur with ALC, and the likely causes of the problems. If you cannot find the solution to your problem in the list, proceed to the next section.

Solution |
|
Unable to access a menu. |
1. Insure that the menu is an ALC menu by using the Display Object Description (DSPOBJD) command. The user attribute field should contain the letters “ALC” in addition to other characters. 2. Insure that the menu exists in the specified library. 3. Insure library ALC is in your library list. 4. Insure you are authorized to the menu. |
|
Not authorized to a menu. |
Use the Display Object Authority (DSPOBJAUT) command to display the authority for the menu. You must have *USE authority to use a menu and *CHANGE authority to change a menu. |
|
Not authorized to a menu option. |
Use the Edit Option Authority (EDTOPTAUT) command to display or change authority for the menu option. You must have *USE authority to the option to see it on your menu or run it. This authority can be granted directly to your user profile, to one of your group profiles, or to *PUBLIC. |
|
A user is authorized to access more menu options than you think they should be. |
1. Use the Edit Option Authority (EDTOPTAUT) command to display or change authority for the menu option. The user must have *USE authority to the option to see it on their menu or run it. This authority can be granted directly to the user profile, to one of their group profiles, or to *PUBLIC. 2. Check the QSECURITY system value on your machine. If it is less than 30, use the Change ALC Menu (CHGALCMNU) command to specify *YES for “Ignore *ALLOBJ authority” for the menu. |
|
The ability of a user to enter commands from a menu is not what you expect. |
1. Determine if the user has LMTCPB(*YES) specified in their user profile. 2. Use the Change ALC Menu (CHGALCMNU) command to determine if ALWCMD(*NO) is specified. |
